This week's podcast from Smithville Elementary!

Enjoy

Picture from the 1st Day of School

This year I've challenged teachers to add a picture a day to their blogs.  I figured if I'm going to challenge others I'd better be prepared to play as well.  Here is my picture from the 1st day of school.

Welcome to the 2011-2012 School Year

The new year begins Monday, August 22, 2011 and it's easy to see that students are ready! That was very evident at Meet the Teacher Night last Thursday.

Students and their parents steadily streamed in from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. eager to meet their new teachers, see friends, and visit with teachers from years past.

I love Meet the Teacher Night because of all the excitement and anticipation to begin the new year.

Monday will be another exciting day as the official 'Opening Day' of school. Students and staff will spend the first 30 minutes together before joining the entire campus for our weekly Rise & Shine Assembly.

The first week of school is always an exciting time and we are looking forward to a great year. The doors open at 7:30 a.m. and the day begins at 8AM.

We can't wait to see all the beautiful faces that make Smithville Elementary an awesome place to be.

Campus Staff Development Day 1

After a full day Monday with the entire district, teachers and staff began inservice on the campus Tuesday. We spent the day with Dr. Grace Gutierrez learning about the new State of Texas Accountability test (STAAR). Today's information was the beginning of year-long training that will prepare us for testing in the Spring.

Afterwards, teachers worked on decorating the hallways during our yearly 'Hallway Happy Hour'. This activity allows our teachers time to work together and enjoy a little pizza while doing so. Our theme this year is 'Rockin' & Rollin' to Success' and the theme can be seen creatively throughout the campus.

We are getting ready to meet all of our new students and see happy familiar faces Thursday night at "Meet the Teacher". We will be eagerly waiting to see you all from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
