This picture does not do justice to the number of science fair projects this year. There are over 65 projects entered in this years contest and the projects are top notch.
Students brought their projects in on Monday and judging took place Tuesday - Thursday. We appreciate the judges that came out this week from within our community including staff from the MD Anderson Science Park.
The winning projects that will advance to the Regional Science Fair in Austin will be announced at Monday's Rise & Shine.

MLK Day is a holiday for SISD. This holiday recognizes the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Students in Mrs. Schaatt's class studied the "I have A Dream" speech which Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. made in 1963.
In the spirit of the speech, students wrote about their dreams for their community, country, and the world.

Our benches came in for the Outdoor Learning Center and are now ready for use; if the weather would cooperate.
Thank you to Mr. Mixon for building the benches for us this past weekend. The benches are made of recycled material and they weigh around 135 lbs. each. They are a nice addition to our OLC and will be put to good use when the weather allows.
As you can see the Outdoor Learning Center is coming together nicely due in large part to our strong community support.

Tuesday we received a Flip Video Camera from the Coca-Cola Company for participating in their MyCokeRewards Program. We have been collecting coke rewards for almost a year. The points earned have been used to order physical education equipment for our campus. Our students particularly love the parachute that we ordered earlier in the fall semester.
So, thank you to Coca-Cola for their nice surprise gift and thank you to everyone who has collected, donated, and submitted points to Smithville Elementary.
What a great way to start the new year!
